The Camp Blount Historic Site represents the last remaining acreage of the mustering location of Tennessee’s volunteer troops during the War of 1812.
The Camp Blount Historic Site offers education and recreation to visitors from all over. However, our primary annual event focuses on students from across Fayetteville and Lincoln County. The preservation and protection of the park serves all who have an interest in the history of Camp Blount, the War of 1812, and prominent Tennessee figures. The majority of visitors come from the immediate area, including Huntsville, AL and Nashville, TN.
The Camp Blount Historic Site began as a vision held by local history enthusiasts to preserve the remaining associated portion of the larger mustering and camp site. As part of a state-wide commission on the commemoration of the War of 1812, during 2012, a core group of local citizens began the work of commemorating Fayetteville's role in that war through the preservation of the site. Over the course of several years, these individuals spread the word to the public, met with state legislators, and involved the Tennessee Historical Commission and Tennessee Wars Commission. Finally, in 2016, by way of these two state offices, the remaining 40 acres associated with Camp Blount were purchased as state property. A maintenance agreement was formed with the City of Fayetteville, and the Camp Blount Historic Site Association remained the fundraising arm of the site's mission.
