Legacy of Local Arts

Community. Arts. Local. These are words that resonate with so many folks in the Fayetteville-Lincoln County community. Where we are as an Arts Center is only possible by the legacy left by those before us and the support offered from community then—and now.

Over 60 years ago, a devoted group of ten local artists met to form the Fayetteville Art League. Ford Scott was the first President of the organization. The commitment to art and community among these first charter members proves a legacy as the organization grew roots for many years.

In 1975, William Carter donated the building we know and love to the Art League, with the intent that it only ever be used for arts. What a gift! Here, the legacy of local arts grew stronger as the community came together to help the group love on the building.

You can read more about the Arts Center's history on our About Page.

Within the last handful of years, we've made tremendous strides with rebranding, fundraising to support our many facility maintenance and update needs, all while launching new programs that fulfill our Mission of enhancing the quality of life in the community through Arts opportunities.

In 2022, we were able to get a completely new roof and gutter system. In 2023 we were able to add cooling/heating units to the Gallery, thanks to the ARPA funds given by the LC Commission! And here we are in 2024, hardscaping around our building to mitigate a burdensome issue of water penetrating our foundation.

This step in the process of preserving our beloved 100+ year old building has come with a tremendous opportunity to raise needed funds to finish out this work while honoring the Legacy of Local Arts with continuity and growth.

Please read on about how you can go down in history with us.

LoLA Square

Legacy of Local Arts (LoLA) Square will be beautifully featured on the north side of our new "concrete yard" in front of the Classroom entrance (about where our marquis used to be.) Our goal is to fill at least half of the available blocks now and do this fundraiser again in the future to support other projects (like handicap lifts!!) Don't wait to get on board -- this is the most impactful and lucrative opportunity we can offer!

Sponsorship Levels

Each block in LoLA Square is a piece of granite — this "forever sponsorship" is a low-cost way to leave your mark on Downtown Fayetteville while supporting local arts! With multiple lines on each block size, families and friends can share a block for greater cost-effectiveness!

Carter Sponsor (8x8", 6 lines of text): $400

Scott Sponsor (4x8", 3 lines of text): $200
